In this contribution a series of documents are edited, dated and contextualised that give reliable and extensive overviews of the nobility in the county of Flanders at seven different moments in time between 1362 and 1481. These documents are in the first place a reflection of the military function of the nobility in this region. The edited sources allow us to gain new insights into the study of the late medieval Flemish nobility, strongly connected to ongoing debates on economic change and state formation. Moreover, the purpose of this edition is to function as an instrument to identify persons and their social status in current and future research on the economic, political and cultural history of the late medieval Netherlands.
